AEON Malaysia Now Supports Weixin Pay As Chinese Tourist Visits Grow

AEON Co (M) Bhd has rolled out Weixin Pay across its stores nationwide, expanding payment options for Chinese travellers as Malaysia seeks to capture higher tourism spending from China.

AEON Deputy Managing Director Hidekazu Iwaoka said the collaboration was intended to improve payment convenience for visitors while supporting Malaysia’s tourism sector, particularly the Chinese visitor market.

“The integration allows Chinese visitors accustomed to Weixin Pay to use the payment method when shopping at AEON, reducing reliance on cash or alternative payment platforms during their stay,” he added, while highlighting that the initiative will run for one year, from Aug 1, 2026 to July 31, 2027.

He shared that customers paying through Weixin Pay at AEON stores will receive preferential exchange rates, while users spending at participating merchants in Malaysia, including AEON, will also have a chance to win vouchers worth up to RMB288.

Weixin Pay Managing Director for Southeast Asia and North America Ben Yang said the company wants Chinese travellers to enjoy a payment experience in Malaysia that remains simple and familiar.

“With Visit Malaysia Year 2026 set to attract more Chinese travellers, we strive to ensure that their daily payments in Malaysia remain simple, convenient and intuitive, just like back home,” he said.
