China’s Foreign Trade Expanded 19% In July With Export Jumping 17%

China’s foreign trade in yuan-denominated terms expanded 19.2% year-on-year in July, according to official data released by the General Administration of Customs on Friday.

The total value of goods imports and exports reached 4.66 trillion yuan ($686.26 billion) for the month, maintaining monthly trade volumes above the 4 trillion yuan threshold for the fifth consecutive month.

The strong performance in July was supported by double-digit gains across both sides of the trade ledger: Exports grew 17.8% year-on-year while imports surged 21.2% year-on-year.

A notable catalyst for the export growth was the strong performance in high-tech manufacturing. Exports of advanced equipment—including industrial robots and 3D printers—surged by over 50% year-on-year during July, outpacing the 39% growth recorded in the first half of the year.

With July’s accelerated pace, China’s total foreign trade in goods reached 30.13 trillion yuan over the first seven months of the year, representing a 17.3% year-on-year increase. Total exports for the January–July period stood at 17.44 trillion yuan (+14%), while imports reached 12.69 trillion yuan (+22%)
