It’s official. Adam Sandler’s Grown Ups is getting a third movie.
More than 13 years after the first movie, Adam Sandler, Kevin James, Chris Rock, David Spade, Rob Schneider, Maya Rudolph, Maria Bello, and Salma Hayek Pinault will return to the franchise for Grown Ups 3.
There are also a few new faces joining the franchise: Julie Bowen, Deon Cole, and Bailee Madison (from Sandler’s 2011 comedy Just Go With It) who have signed on to get chocolate wasted.
When Grown Ups came out in 2010, the comedy introduced the world to five childhood friends played by Rock, James, Spade, Schneider, and Sandler. After 30 years apart, the pals get together over the July 4 weekend to collectively grieve over their childhood basketball coach, bringing their wives (portrayed by Rudolph, Bello, Joyce Van Patten, and Hayek Pinault) and kids along for the ride.
The 2013 sequel Grown Ups 2 brought the old friends together again when Sandler’s character, Lenny, moves back to their hometown from his luxury life in Los Angeles. Together, the gang have a wacky summer with old and new friends and rivals in tow. Schneider was notably absent in this one.
In Grown Ups 3, now that their kids are all grown up, the gang is finally free to go on the ultimate adventure.
One glaring absence in this film is Cameron Boyce, who played Sandler’s middle son. Boyce tragically passed away due to complications from epilepsy.
Directed by Kyle Newacheck, who also helmed Happy Gilmore 2, and co-written by Tim Herlihy and Sandler are co-writers. Adam Sandler, Jackie Sandler, Jack Giarraputo, and Herlihy are producers; Kevin Grady, Fred Wolf, Jackie Shenoo, Aidan Elliott, Kristen Ploucha, Sarah Sarandos, and Judit Maull are executive producers. Jackie, Sunny, and Sadie Sandler will also be part of the cast.
It is uncertain as to when the movie will be released, but expect to have laughs abound.
