Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet on Friday met with visiting Malaysia’s Defense Minister Mohamed Khaled Nordin to deepen defense cooperation between the two ASEAN nations.
According to a press release from the Cambodian prime minister’s spokesperson unit, Hun Manet welcomed the ongoing progress in bilateral relations.
He highlighted the achievements in defense cooperation to date and reaffirmed that the Cambodian government will continue to support the expansion of joint defense initiatives.
He also expressed appreciation for Malaysia’s historical role in promoting regional peace, including its past efforts in facilitating a ceasefire between Cambodia and Thailand, as well as its important contribution to the ASEAN Observer Team (AOT) mechanism in Cambodia.
Mohamed Khaled described Cambodia as a close and trusted friend of Malaysia, noting that his visit aims to translate shared commitments into concrete actions to strengthen bilateral ties. He reaffirmed Malaysia’s commitment to continuing defense training programs for Cambodia.
The two nations plan to explore further cooperation in peacekeeping operations, non-traditional security challenges, maritime security, and capacity building for artificial intelligence applications in the defense sector, the press release said.
Both sides also exchanged views on a range of regional and international issues
