The Youth and Sports Ministry (KBS) is holding weekly coordination meetings to ensure preparations for the Bahrain Formula One (F1) Grand Prix at the Sepang International Circuit (SIC) run smoothly, with security and protocol among the key areas being monitored.
Youth and Sports Minister Dr Mohammed Taufiq Johari said the meetings are held every Tuesday and involve the main committee, technical committee and eight sub-committees established to coordinate preparations for the race from Oct 2 to 4.
“So far, everything is in perfect condition,” he told reporters after launching the Month of Friends of Democracy through the Kuasa Orang Muda initiative today.
He said the government has allocated RM16 million for the event, while any additional costs remain under discussion and will only be announced once negotiations are finalised.
Dr Mohammed Taufiq said a technical team from the International Automobile Federation (FIA) recently inspected the circuit and was satisfied with its current condition, with no major issues identified.
SIC will be closed to the public from Sept 7 until the race to facilitate maintenance and improvements requested by the FIA and Formula One Management, as well as works identified by the Bahrain International Circuit.
Training sessions and track testing will subsequently be conducted to ensure the circuit is functioning properly and safe ahead of the race.
