The Inland Revenue Board (IRB) has begun investigations into individuals identified in the Royal Commission of Inquiry (RCI) report concerning the management and operations of Lembaga Tabung Haji (TH).
IRB said in a statement today that the investigations were initiated based on tax risk analysis, which detected discrepancies between the assets owned by the individuals and the income they had declared.
The tax authority also conducted raids at several related premises to obtain information, review documents and verify facts relevant to the investigations.
“IRB wishes to clarify that all review and investigation actions are carried out professionally, with integrity and in accordance with prevailing tax laws without prejudice against any party,” it said.
It added that any further action would only be determined based on the findings of the investigations, examination of information and evidence obtained throughout the review process.
The move follows the publication of the 211-page RCI report on July 29 by the Department of Islamic Development Malaysia (JAKIM), detailing investigations into TH’s management and operations between 2014 and 2020.
