Maybank Completes RM4.8 Billion Tier 2 Sukuk Issuance

Malayan Banking Bhd (Maybank) has completed the issuance of RM4.8 billion in aggregate nominal value of Subordinated Sukuk Murabahah, strengthening the banking group’s Tier 2 capital base.

Maybank said the issuance was completed on 11 August 2026 under its Sukuk Programme, which has been upsized to RM30 billion in nominal value from RM10 billion previously.

The RM4.8 billion issuance comprises four series with different maturities and profit rates.

The issuance carries an AA1 rating with a stable outlook from RAM Rating Services Bhd and will make semi-annual periodic profit payments.

Maybank said proceeds from the sukuk issuance will be used for Shariah-compliant purposes, including investments in Ringgit- and foreign currency-denominated Islamic financial instruments approved by the relevant Shariah advisory councils.

The latest transaction follows Maybank’s earlier establishment and subsequent revisions to the Sukuk Programme, which was first established in 2016 and subsequently upsized to RM30 billion.
