Oil-Related Stocks Drag Market Lower

Bursa Malaysia closed lower on Aug 13 as selling pressure in oil-related counters weighed on the broader market, with the benchmark FTSE Bursa Malaysia KLCI (FBM KLCI) retreating 6.90 points, or 0.4%, to 1,734.71 after the previous session’s rally.

The FBM KLCI traded between an intraday high of 1,742.79 and a low of 1,732.83 before settling below its Aug 12’s close of 1,741.61.

Weakness was broad-based across the key indices, with the FBM 70 fell 105.60 points, or 0.57%, to 18,330.21, after trading between 18,314.77 and 18,443.57. The F4GBM declined 5.03 points, or 0.48%, to 1,043.22, with an intraday range of 1,042.18 to 1,048.88.

The FBM Emas shed 60.15 points, or 0.47%, to 12,858.55, while the FBM Emas Shariah recorded the steepest percentage decline among the major indices, falling 75.90 points, or 0.59%, to 12,694.98.

Trading activity was led by Key Asic Bhd, which surged 4.5 sen to eight sen after trading between four sen and 9.5 sen, with 216.97 million shares changing hands.

SC Estate Builder Bhd slipped half a sen to 0.5 sen, with 68.96 million shares traded, while HHRG Bhd was unchanged at 15.5 sen on 64.34 million shares.

Dagang NeXchange Bhd declined two sen to 51 sen, after trading between 51 sen and 53.5 sen, with 53.81 million shares transacted. NationGate Holdings Bhd was unchanged at RM1.56, having traded between RM1.49 and RM1.59, on volume of 46.12 million shares.

Overall market turnover eased to 3.51 billion shares worth RM3.05 billion compared to 3.7 billion shares valued at RM3.27 billion on Aug 12.
