Bursa Ends Lower As KLCI Slips 7.32 Points Despite Sector Buying

Bursa Malaysia ended Aug 14 in negative territory, with the benchmark index slipping 7.32 points, or 0.42%, to 1,727.39, despite renewed buying interest in utilities, healthcare and financial services following Malaysia’s second-quarter GDP release.

The FTSE Bursa Malaysia KLCI (FBM KLCI) fell from its close of 1,734.71 on Aug 13 after trading between 1,726.77 and 1,734.72 during the session.

The broader market was also weaker, with the FBM 70 eased 37.02 points to 18,293.19, the FBM Emas lost 43.11 points to 12,815.44, while the FBM Shariah declined 65.75 points to 12,629.23.

Among index heavyweights, Maybank and CIMB Group were unchanged at RM10.60 and RM7.95 respectively. Public Bank slipped three sen to RM5.13, TNB eased two sen to RM14.48 and IHH Healthcare fell seven sen to RM8.20.

Trading activity was led by Jaks Resources Bhd, which rose 1.5 sen to 10.5 sen, followed by Key ASIC Bhd, HHRG Bhd, Tanco Holdings Bhd and Kronologi Asia Bhd.

Market turnover eased to 3.5 billion units worth RM2.59 billion compared to 3.51 billion units valued at RM3.05 billion on Aug 13.
