Unhealthy air quality readings were recorded in several areas of Sarawak and Peninsular Malaysia as of 9am today, according to real-time data from the World Air Quality Index (AQI) project.
Kuching recorded the highest reading in Sarawak at 172, placing it in the unhealthy category, followed by Samarahan at 171 and Sri Aman at 164. Other affected areas included Sarikei at 158, Mukah at 152, Bintulu at 142 and Belaga in the Kapit division at 140.
In Peninsular Malaysia, Cheras recorded an AQI reading of 153 while Kuala Lumpur registered 150. Cyberjaya also recorded an unhealthy reading of 151, while Seri Serdang stood at 141.
AQI readings between 101 and 150 are generally classified as unhealthy for sensitive groups, while readings between 151 and 200 are considered unhealthy, with health effects more likely to be experienced by the general public.
The latest readings come as haze conditions continue to affect parts of the country, particularly Sarawak, with several areas recording elevated pollution levels in recent days.
