The government is expected to announce improvements to the targeted diesel subsidy mechanism within the next one to two months, Finance Minister II Datuk Seri Amir Hamzah Azizan said.
He said the proposed changes, which are still under review, would focus on making the scheme more accessible while addressing issues faced by eligible recipients.
Among the measures being considered are simplifying the application process, easing eligibility requirements for vehicles bought through sambung bayar arrangements, and allowing diesel quotas to be transferred to immediate family members.
“We are still examining several proposals for improvement. In the next month or two, we will make an announcement, particularly on the process and eligibility,” he said.
Amir Hamzah was speaking to reporters after attending the 2027 Budget Engagement Session with industry players in Tawau, Sabah, on Sunday.
He said the improvements would form part of efforts under Budget 2027 to ensure targeted diesel subsidies were delivered more effectively, while making sure government allocations helped ease the cost-of-living burden.
