Affin Group and Baiduri Bank have teamed up to strengthen cross-border banking between Malaysia and Brunei, a move expected to widen access to financing, investment and trade opportunities for businesses and customers in both markets.
The two financial institutions signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to combine Affin’s banking capabilities and Malaysian network with Baiduri Bank’s established domestic presence and market expertise in Brunei.
The collaboration is aimed at creating a more direct financial corridor for companies pursuing trade, investment and regional expansion between the two countries.
Under the MoU, both banks will explore cooperation across commercial and retail banking, financing, trade finance, treasury and investment services, including investment banking, stockbroking, asset management and unit trusts.
The partnership comes amid strengthening economic ties between Malaysia and Brunei, with bilateral trade reaching RM5.8 billion in 2025 and RM2.4 billion in the first half of 2026. Both countries are also pursuing closer cooperation in areas including energy, agriculture, tourism, connectivity and the halal economy.
Affin Group President and Group Chief Executive Officer Datuk Wan Razly Abdullah said the agreement provides a platform to deepen cross-border connectivity and connect customers with new commercial opportunities.
He said Affin’s capabilities across conventional and Islamic banking, investment banking, asset management and wealth management, combined with Baiduri Bank’s Brunei franchise, would broaden the range of solutions available to customers.
Meanwhile, Baiduri Bank Chief Executive Officer Ti Eng Hui said the partnership would help strengthen existing economic and business ties, particularly as opportunities across Malaysia and Borneo continue to expand.
