Dorod Group Bhd (Dorod) and KSI Strategic Institute for Asia Pacific (KSI) have partnered to develop Malaysia’s first Green Legacy Hub, an initiative aimed at turning corporate philanthropy into long-term food security, employment and community development.
The partnership was formalised through a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) witnessed by Deputy Economy Minister Dato’ Sri Mohd Shahar at SME Forum 2026 in Kuala Lumpur, with Dorod represented by Founder and CEO Prof Dr Hamed Faghiri and KSI by President Tan Sri Michael Yeoh.
The proposed self-sustaining community farming hub will use 200 aeroponic Arrow Towers to produce fresh vegetables, with project targets of nourishing 40,000 people annually, supporting 10,000 families and supplying ingredients equivalent to 2,000 fresh meals daily. The technology is designed to use up to 98% less water than conventional farming.
Dorod has appointed KSI to engage corporations, foundations and philanthropists to support the Dorod Green Legacy CSR Programme, which is implemented in collaboration with Majlis Pusat Kebajikan SeMalaysia (MPKSM).
Tan Sri Michael said the initiative sought to move corporate philanthropy beyond one-off contributions towards projects capable of delivering measurable and lasting benefits.
Prof Dr Hamed said the programme would combine food production with job creation, skills development, resource conservation and entrepreneurship, allowing contributions to create value for communities over a longer period.
The hub is also expected to support employment opportunities, including for people with disabilities, alongside practical education and entrepreneurship development.
The programme targets measurable environmental, social and governance (ESG) and Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) outcomes, with sustainability data envisaged to support corporate reporting for up to 20 years.
The first hub is intended to serve as a model that can eventually be replicated across Malaysia and potentially overseas.
