Bursa Malaysia closed higher on Aug 20 as easing US Treasury yields helped improve investor risk appetite following Washington’s move to ramp up Treasury buyback operations.
At the closing bell, the benchmark FTSE Bursa Malaysia KLCI (FBM KLCI) gained 5.39 points, or 0.31%, to 1,736.71 from its Aug 19’s close of 1,731.32.
The positive tone extended across Bursa Malaysia’s major indices. The FBM 70 rose 39.84 points, or 0.22%, to 18,174.11, the F4GBM gained 2.78 points, or 0.27%, to 1,041.47, while the FBM Emas advanced 32.88 points, or 0.26%, to 12,837.62. The FBM Shariah added 23.44 points, or 0.19%, to 12,658.57.
IJM Corp Bhd was the day’s most actively traded stock, with about 198.93 million shares changing hands. The counter rose 11 sen to RM2.80 after trading between RM2.68 and RM2.85.
NexG Bhd followed with roughly 158.01 million shares traded, gaining five sen to 33 sen. The stock moved between 27.5 sen and 34 sen.
YTL Corp Bhd remained heavily traded, with about 84.28 million shares changing hands. It climbed 21 sen to RM2.43, after touching a low of RM2.23 and a high of RM2.45.
CBH Engineering Holding Bhd gained 5.5 sen to 84.5 sen on around 80.49 million shares, while Zetrix AI Bhd eased half a sen to 65 sen with approximately 72.39 million shares traded.
Trading activity remained robust, with turnover climbing to 4.28 billion units worth RM4.01 billion, compared with 3.31 billion units valued at RM2.92 billion on Aug 19.
With all major indices finishing in positive territory and trading value exceeding RM4 billion, Bursa Malaysia ended the session on a firmer footing as global bond-market pressure eased.
