The Inland Revenue Board of Malaysia (HASiL) is strengthening tax governance and compliance among institutions, organisations and funds (IOTs) through a nationwide strategic engagement programme being conducted across six zones.

The 2026 HASiL Strategic Engagement Sessions with IOTs are aimed at improving understanding of tax requirements, particularly those relating to applications, compliance with approval conditions and the digitalisation of tax-related processes under Subsection 44(6) of the Income Tax Act 1967.

The initiative is being conducted in stages nationwide, with the first two sessions having received encouraging participation.

The Central Zone session was held at Menara HASiL in Cyberjaya on July 31, attracting 277 participants, while the Northern Zone session took place at Menara HASiL Penang on Aug 18, with 125 participants.

Speaking at the Northern Zone session, HASiL Chief Tax Policy Officer Rosnita Ahmad said the engagement sessions provide an important platform to strengthen strategic cooperation between HASiL and IOTs, while improving understanding of tax administration under Subsection 44(6) of the Income Tax Act 1967.

She also urged IOTs to strengthen their governance, integrity and accountability, while making greater use of digital facilities provided by HASiL to streamline their tax administration and compliance processes.
