Bursa Ends Flat As Bond Yields, Geopolitical Risks Keep Investors Cautious

Bursa Malaysia ended little changed on Aug 21 as investors stayed cautious amid renewed pressure from global bond yields and geopolitical tensions.

The benchmark FTSE Bursa Malaysia KLCI (FBM KLCI) slipped 0.23 point, or 0.01%, to 1,736.48 from its close of 1,736.71 on Aug 20, after trading between 1,733.13 and 1,738.30.

The broader market was also softer, with the FBM 70 down 0.13% to 18,151.04, the FBM Emas easing 0.04% to 12,832.28 and the FBM Shariah falling 0.13% to 12,641.79.

Among the most active counters, NexG Bhd eased one sen to 32 sen, Zetrix AI Bhd was unchanged at 65 sen, while AirAsia Group Bhd fell 7.5 sen to 81 sen. JCY International Bhd slipped 1.5 sen to 51.5 sen, while YTL Corp Bhd bucked the trend, gaining six sen to RM2.49.

Trading activity moderated, with 3.91 billion shares worth RM3.32 billion changing hands, down from 4.28 billion shares valued at RM4.01 billion a day earlier.
