Putrajaya has ruled out taking over Datasonic Technologies Sdn Bhd (DTSB), following media reports that the government was considering a RM7.5 billion acquisition of the company from NexG.
In a statement on the security and sovereignty of Malaysians’ identities, the National Security Council said the government remains committed to safeguarding the security and sovereignty of citizens’ identities as a strategic national asset.
The council said the government regulates the protection of citizens’ identities through legislative, financial, governance and security frameworks.
It added that the government continues to explore proactive and effective strategies to protect the security and sovereignty of Malaysians’ identities, while ensuring the best value for every ringgit spent.
“Related to media reports regarding the proposed takeover of Datasonic Technologies Sdn Bhd (DTSB), which provides citizen identity services, the MADANI Government’s position is that it will not take over DTSB,” the statement said.
The statement comes amid reports of a potential government takeover of DTSB, a company involved in services related to national identity documents including MyKad and Malaysian passports, from NextG.
