Bintulu Port Granted Time Extension To Settle RM44 Million Tax Assessment

Bintulu Port Holdings Bhd said settlement discussions with the Inland Revenue Board of Malaysia (IRB) over tax assessments totalling RM44.22 million remain ongoing, with the High Court granting the parties additional time to reach an agreement.

The assessments relate to the years of assessment 2020 to 2023 and comprise RM6.75 million for 2020, RM11.00 million for 2021, RM12.67 million for 2022 and RM13.80 million for 2023.

Bintulu Port said the Judicial Review application had initially been scheduled for a merits hearing on July 2, 2026, before being deferred to July 22.

At the July 22 proceedings, the matter was converted to case management to facilitate settlement discussions between the company and the IRB.

During the latest case management on Aug 13, counsel for Bintulu Port sought an extension of time for both parties to continue discussions on a possible settlement.

The IRB did not object to the request, and the court subsequently allowed the extension.

The next case management has been fixed for Oct 12, 2026, when both parties are expected to provide an update on the settlement discussions and receive further directions from the court.

Bintulu Port said it will make further announcements to Bursa Malaysia Securities as and when there are material developments on the matter.
