The Ministry of Foreign Affairs (Wisma Putra) has lost contact with 11 Malaysian nationals in Nepal following severe flash floods triggered by the overflow of the Bhote Koshi River in the Rasuwa district early Wednesday morning.
In a media advisory issued by the Malaysian Embassy in Kathmandu, the ministry stated that initial reports indicate widespread destruction to critical local infrastructure, including roads, bridges, and telecommunications networks across the affected region.
Travel agencies notified the Malaysian Embassy that communications with 11 Malaysian citizens believed to be in the Rasuwa district were lost following the disaster.
The loss of contact is believed to be a direct result of severe disruptions to power grids and communication networks caused by the surging floodwaters.
The embassy is actively liaising with Nepalese authorities and search-and-rescue (SAR) teams currently deployed by the Nepalese government to locate and ensure the safety of the affected Malaysians.
Wisma Putra has strongly advised all Malaysian nationals residing in or traveling through Nepal—particularly those near the flood-impacted zones—to remain vigilant, prioritise personal safety, and strictly comply with safety directives issued by local emergency responders.
