Thirty-six Malaysians remain uncontactable in China and 55 in Nepal following floods and landslides, with authorities continuing efforts to establish their safety and whereabouts.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs (Wisma Putra) said three Malaysians identified by authorities in Xizang, China, as among those unaccounted for after a mudslide at Gyirong Port on Aug 26 are already included in the 36 cases.
It said the three do not represent additional cases, with the figures remaining at 36 Malaysians uncontactable in China and 55 in Nepal.
The Malaysian embassies in Beijing and Kathmandu are working with local authorities and other parties to verify information and check for possible duplication.
The Embassy in Kathmandu has also provided consular assistance to family members who travelled to the Nepalese capital, including updates, guidance on local procedures and coordination with the relevant authorities.
Meanwhile, both embassies are seeking access to areas closer to the affected sites. Any movement by Malaysian officials will depend on approval from local authorities and safety and access conditions.
Wisma Putra said its Operations Room in Putrajaya remains open around the clock to coordinate information and assist affected Malaysians and their families.
