Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim today announced six immediate measures to ease cost-of-living pressures, covering fuel subsidies, school maintenance, artificial intelligence (AI), healthcare digitalisation, e-Invoicing and microfinancing.
The measures, which take effect from Sept 1, are intended to address the financial pressures faced by households, young people, students and small businesses.
Speaking at his 2026 National Day Prime Minister’s Address at the Putrajaya International Convention Centre (PICC) today, Anwar said the government recognised that many Malaysians continued to struggle with the cost of living despite measures already introduced.
He said the latest initiatives were part of efforts to provide immediate relief while responding to concerns about everyday expenses.
Anwar also stressed that the measures should not be seen as an indication that the government considered the issue resolved.
He said the government would continue to listen to public concerns and take further steps to address them.
The six measures cover changes to fuel subsidy eligibility, a higher allocation for school maintenance, free AI subscriptions for eligible young people, improved digital healthcare services, a higher e-Invoice exemption threshold and additional financing for micro-businesses.
