Sarawak’s haze situation worsened on the morning of Sept 1, with six areas recording hazardous Air Pollutant Index (API) levels as of 8am, led by Serian at 408 and Kuching at 407.
Other areas in the hazardous category were Samarahan at 372, Sri Aman at 361, Sarikei at 333 and Sibu at 309.
Mukah, Bintulu and Samalaju recorded very unhealthy readings of 234, 232 and 225 respectively.
Nine locations nationwide were at unhealthy levels, led by ILP Miri at 187, followed by Miri at 180, Kapit at 178, Labuan at 167 and Limbang at 166. Kimanis, Keningau, Tawau and Johan Setia in Selangor were also in the unhealthy category.
Meanwhile, 48 areas nationwide recorded moderate air quality.
Under Malaysia’s API classification, readings above 300 are considered hazardous, while 201 to 300 are very unhealthy and 101 to 200 are unhealthy.
