What comes after the mooncakes are gone? Mandarin Oriental, Kuala Lumpur has made its answer part of this year’s Mid-Autumn offering: a reusable, hand-painted stainless-steel tiffin.
The limited-edition gift set contains six mooncakes and two tea canisters, but the packaging is designed to stay in use after the festival. The two-tier tiffin is made in collaboration with Malaysian social enterprise Tiffin Jeiwa, which runs craft workshops for underserved communities.
The artisans involved include women from low-income households, single mothers, persons with disabilities and survivors of domestic violence. Each tiffin is hand-painted, so the designs vary from one piece to another.
The artwork follows this year’s Malaysian flora and fauna theme, with the hornbill as its main motif. A TAS by Tom Abang Saufi scarf is also wrapped around the tiffin.
Inside, the mooncakes are drawn from three of Mandarin Oriental’s 2026 collections: Timeless Tradition, Snow Skin and Artisanal Chocolate.
The traditional selection includes Lotus Paste with Single Yolk and Assorted Mixed Nuts. The first combines lotus paste with salted egg yolk, while the second is made with a blend of roasted nuts.
The Snow Skin options take a different direction. Musang King Durian uses a durian filling in a soft snow-skin casing. Red Bean Paste with Bird’s Nest & Rose combines red bean paste with bird’s nest and rose.
For chocolate fans, there are Pistachio Kataifi Chocolate and Hazelnut & Fig Chocolate. The first pairs pistachio cream with crisp kataifi and chocolate. The second combines roasted hazelnuts and fig with chocolate.
The set is priced at RM688 and is available in limited quantities. It can be purchased online or from the Mandarin Oriental Cake Shop on the ground floor, which is open from 9 am to 9 pm.
