Could The ‘Practical Magic’ Story Continue?

Practical Magic 3 could be on the table, but its future depends on how the upcoming sequel performs.

Sandra Bullock, who returns as Sally Owens in Practical Magic 2, has said she would consider a third film if the sequel is successful. She also wants the story to move to the next generation.

“We’ll do a number three if this takes off,” Bullock told Vanity Fair. “And we’ll pass the torch to the girls.” Deadline reported the comments ahead of the sequel’s release.

The “girls” are Sally’s daughters, Kylie and Antonia. Joey King and Maisie Williams play the characters in Practical Magic 2. They take over the roles from Evan Rachel Wood and Alexandra Artrip, who played younger versions of the characters in the original film.

The second film brings Bullock back alongside Nicole Kidman, who reprises her role as Sally’s sister, Gillian Owens. Susanne Bier directs the sequel.

Practical Magic 2 is based on Alice Hoffman’s 2021 novel The Book of Magic, which continues the story from her 1995 book Practical Magic. Hoffman’s earlier novels, The Rules of Magic and Magic Lessons, also explore the Owens family history.

For now, there is no official Practical Magic 3 greenlight. The immediate focus is on the sequel, which is set to arrive on 10 September.

If a third film does happen, Bullock has already indicated that it could shift the focus from Sally and Gillian to the next generation of Owens women.
