Tiffany & Co. is adding new designs to one of its most recognisable jewellery motifs. The Bird on a Rock collection now includes new fine and high jewellery pieces that take the original bird design in a more abstract direction.
Jean Schlumberger created the Bird on a Rock brooch for Tiffany in 1965. The design was inspired by birds he encountered during his travels in Asia and the Caribbean. It has since become closely associated with the jewellery house.
The new collection was developed under Nathalie Verdeille, Tiffany & Co.’s Chief Artistic Officer for Jewellery and High Jewellery. It includes both sculpted bird designs and pieces that focus on the bird’s wings and feathers.
The figural pieces feature birds made from 18-karat yellow gold. Engraved details are used across the bodies, collars and wings. Diamonds are also set into selected pendants and earrings.
The collection then moves away from the full bird with Wings. This series focuses on the shape of flight. The pieces combine 18-karat gold and platinum, with individual feather details worked into the designs.
Wings includes a necklace, ring, drop earrings, an articulated bracelet and a pendant. There are also three rings made without gemstones, available in yellow gold, rose gold and platinum.
For high jewellery, Tiffany has introduced Feathers. The series took nearly three years to develop and focuses on the bird’s plumage. The designs combine platinum, 18-karat gold and diamonds, with engraved surfaces adding texture.
The collection also includes new high jewellery pieces featuring multiple birds. Rather than placing a single bird on a gemstone, these designs show the figures positioned together.
The latest additions continue Tiffany’s use of Bird on a Rock across different jewellery formats. The new pieces are available at select Tiffany & Co. stores.
