DAP Urges PM Not To Bow To Early Election Demands

DAP has urged Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim not to bow to calls for an early general election, saying there is no need to dissolve Parliament before the end of its current term.

DAP secretary-general Anthony Loke said the party would continue to support Anwar’s leadership until the end of 2027, when the current parliamentary term is due to expire.

He said the unity government should be given sufficient time to carry out its mandate and deliver on its commitments, rather than be distracted by calls for an early election.

Loke’s remarks come amid calls from some quarters for Parliament to be dissolved ahead of schedule and a general election to be held earlier.

Under the Constitution, the next general election must be held within the prescribed timeframe following the expiry or dissolution of the current Parliament.
