Bursa Malaysia saw a volatile week of trading, with plantation, energy and consumer counters featuring prominently among the market’s biggest daily movers.
Hengyuan Refining Company Bhd emerged as one of the strongest performers across the week, gaining 58 sen on Tuesday and another 41 sen on Wednesday for a combined rise of 99 sen across the two sessions.
Sarawak Oil Palms Bhd was another notable gainer, adding 21 sen on Tuesday and 40 sen on Wednesday, while Kuala Lumpur Kepong Bhd gained 86 sen on Wednesday before giving back 32 sen on Thursday.
United Plantations Bhd also featured prominently, climbing 74 sen on Tuesday and 24 sen on Wednesday before suffering a sharp 96 sen decline on Friday.
On the losing side, Nestlé (M) Bhd came under sustained pressure, falling RM2.18 on Tuesday and another RM2.04 on Wednesday. Although it recovered 36 sen on Friday, the counter remained among the week’s biggest decliners based on the reported daily moves.
Fraser & Neave Holdings Bhd also saw considerable swings, falling 54 sen on Tuesday and 36 sen on Wednesday before recovering 38 sen on Friday.
Other notable decliners included Malaysian Pacific Industries Bhd, which lost RM1.30 on Tuesday and another 48 sen on Wednesday, while Heineken Malaysia Bhd fell 34 sen on Thursday and another 80 sen on Friday.
Friday’s session saw selling pressure return to the market, particularly among plantation stocks, with United Plantations suffering its 96 sen decline.
Meanwhile, selected counters including F&N, Nestlé, CHB, Notion Vtec Bhd and ViTrox Corporation Bhd managed to close higher.
