The Yang di-Pertuan Agong Sultan Ibrahim has consented to end the emergency declaration covering the entire Serian Division in Sarawak, which was imposed following worsening haze conditions.
Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said the consent was granted after taking into account his advice, the views of Sarawak Premier Tan Sri Abang Johari Openg and reports from relevant agencies showing that the Air Pollutant Index (API) readings in Serian were no longer at hazardous levels.
However, Anwar said the haze situation in Sarawak had yet to fully recover, with API readings in several areas, particularly Serian and Samarahan, still at very unhealthy levels.
“The Federal Government and Sarawak State Government will continue to monitor the situation closely and residents in affected areas are advised to limit outdoor activities and always comply with the authorities’ instructions,” he said in a statement posted on X.
The emergency declaration had been imposed following the deterioration in air quality caused by the haze.
Anwar said the authorities would continue monitoring developments in the affected areas and urged residents to remain cautious while the haze situation persists.
