The FBM KLCI rose 6.51 points or 0.38% to 1,714.61 at 12.30pm, extending its morning gains as selected heavyweights lifted the benchmark higher.
The index opened at 1,709.70 and moved between an intraday low of 1,708.26 and a high of 1,715.04.
The broader market was mixed, with the FBMT100 rising 0.28% and FBMEMAS gaining 0.25%, while the FBM70 slipped 0.02% and FBMSCAP fell 0.14%.
Among sectoral indices, Construction was the biggest decliner, down 0.68%, while Energy rose 0.14% and Consumer Products & Services edged up 0.03%.
Trading activity was led by Zetrix, which fell 1 sen to 24.5 sen with 231.13 million shares traded. HHRG jumped 4.5 sen to 19 sen on 122.68 million shares, while Ingenieur declined 1 sen to 3.5 sen after 116.22 million shares changed hands.
Key gainers included MPI, which climbed 52 sen to RM39.92, Tenaga Nasional rising 26 sen to RM13.88 and Petronas Gas gaining 24 sen to RM17.50.
Meanwhile, Carlsberg Brewery Malaysia was the biggest loser, falling 22 sen to RM12.80, followed by Nestle Malaysia which declined 18 sen to RM94.66.
Vitrox shed 10 sen to RM9.06, while Malayan Cement dropped 9 sen to RM6.05.
