Air quality in Serian, Sarawak has returned to hazardous levels with the district recording an Air Pollutant Index (API) reading of 302 this morning, just a day after the emergency declaration in the division was lifted.
The reading was recorded at the monitoring station at the Serian District Police Headquarters, according to the Air Pollutant Index Management System (APIMS).
Three other areas in Sarawak recorded very unhealthy air quality, with Kuching registering an API of 243, Samarahan 237 and Sri Aman 232.
Several other locations in the state also recorded unhealthy readings, including Mukah at 184, Sarikei at 183, Samalaju at 178, Bintulu at 170 and Miri at 169.
In Selangor, Johan Setia recorded the highest API at 168, followed by Shah Alam at 165, Banting at 159, Klang at 156, Petaling Jaya at 154 and Kuala Selangor at 152.
Unhealthy air quality was also recorded in parts of Perak, Kuala Lumpur, Putrajaya, Negeri Sembilan, Melaka, Labuan and Johor.
His Majesty Sultan Ibrahim, King of Malaysia, had on Friday consented to an emergency declaration in the Serian Division after worsening haze pushed air pollution to hazardous levels. The declaration was lifted yesterday.
An API reading of 0 to 50 indicates good air quality, 51 to 100 moderate, 101 to 200 unhealthy, 201 to 300 very unhealthy while readings of 301 and above are classified as hazardous.
Nationwide, 37 areas recorded moderate air quality while two recorded good air quality.
