Gamuda JV Wins Third Sydney Metro Contract Valued At RM2.5 Billion

Gamuda has secured its third Sydney Metro contract after a consortium involving Gamuda Engineering Australia, Gamuda Land Australia and MTR Australia was awarded the Sydney Metro West – Parramatta Integrated Station Development project, with the station works valued at about A$880 million (RM2.54 billion).

The station works will be split 80:20 between Gamuda Engineering Australia and MTR Australia, giving Gamuda Engineering the larger share of the contract. Gamuda Land Australia will also participate in the over- and adjacent-station property development.

The latest award follows Gamuda’s Sydney Metro West Western Tunnelling Package and the Stations Package West, the latter involving five stations at Westmead, North Strathfield, Burwood North, Five Dock and The Bays. The Parramatta project will bring the number of Sydney Metro stations being delivered by Gamuda to six.

Gamuda Engineering Australia Chief Executive Officer Ewan Yee said the contract also marks the first time the three partners are working together on an integrated transport-oriented development in Parramatta.

“This is more than just another station award, it’s the first time all three partners have joined forces on one integrated transport-oriented development for Parramatta,” Yee added.

The project is located in Parramatta, Sydney’s second central business district, and forms part of the wider Sydney Metro West development. Detailed design and project activities are set to begin following the award on Sept 4, 2026, while the Metro West line is targeted to open in 2032.

The contract further expands Gamuda’s Australian order book, with Australia now described by the group as its largest overseas base and a key growth market. Gamuda’s Australian operations currently span major rail and road infrastructure projects as well as property and clean-energy developments.

Sydney Metro is Australia’s largest public transport project, covering a planned network of four metro lines, 46 stations and 113km of new metro rail.
