Professionals in Malaysia and Indonesia will have new pathways to internationally recognised UK Chartered Manager status under a collaboration between the Malaysia Strategic Development Institute (MSDI) and the Chartered Management Institute (CMI), United Kingdom.
The partnership will see MSDI become the first organisation to deliver selected CMI Leadership Academy programmes across both countries, covering two pathways aimed at different stages of management.
The First-Line Management Programme is designed for new and junior managers, team leaders and supervisors, with successful learners able to progress towards Foundation Chartered Manager (fCMgr) status. The Operational Leadership and Management Programme targets middle managers with at least three years of management experience and provides a pathway towards Chartered Manager (CMgr) status.
CMI International Director Mahmoud Aboulfotoh said, “Management capability shapes whether organisations thrive or struggle, especially now, as workplaces are transformed by technology and shifting expectations. Programmes like this give managers real command of the behaviours and standards that separate good leadership from good intentions.”
The initiative addresses the so-called “accidental manager” problem, with CMI research finding that as many as 82% of people entering management roles in the UK do so without formal training.
Both programmes include a Management Impact Project based on a real workplace challenge, requiring participants to apply their learning to an organisational issue rather than completing a purely academic exercise.
MSDI Chief Executive Officer Dr. Iskandar Danial Bin Adam Adonis said, “CMI-published research shows that organisations investing in structured management and leadership development see, on average, a 23% increase in organisational performance and a 32% increase in employee engagement and productivity.”
