Apple’s latest iPhone launch has brought an unwelcome surprise for Malaysian buyers, with the company quietly raising prices for several existing iPhone models by up to RM400.
Following the launch event, the iPhone 17 now starts at RM4,399, up from RM3,999 previously. The iPhone 17e has also increased to RM3,299 from RM2,999, while the iPhone Air now starts at RM5,299 compared with RM4,999 previously.
The price changes come as Apple unveiled the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max, alongside its first foldable iPhone, the iPhone Duo. The standard iPhone 18 was notably absent from the September launch, with reports indicating that Apple is adopting a staggered iPhone release strategy.
The increases in Malaysia follow similar price hikes in other markets, where Apple has raised prices of existing iPhone models by US$100.
For Malaysian buyers, this means the iPhone 17 remains the entry point for Apple’s main flagship line at RM4,399, while the iPhone 17e remains the cheapest option among the models affected by the latest adjustment.
Apple’s move also means consumers looking to pick up an older iPhone after the latest launch will not necessarily get the usual post-launch price reduction.
The company has not indicated that the price increases are temporary, meaning buyers may have to pay more for the older models even as they remain on sale alongside the new generation.
