Wisma Putra has informed that Prime Minister Dato’ Seri Anwar Ibrahim will undertake a Working Visit to India from 11 to 14 September 2026 to attend the 18th BRICS Leaders’ Summit in New Delhi on 12 and 13 September 2026, as well as bilateral programmes in Keralam from 13 to 14 September 2026.
The Prime Minister will be accompanied by Datuk Seri Johari Abdul Ghani, Minister of Investment, Trade and Industry; and Dato’ Sri Ramanan Ramakrishnan, Minister of Human Resources; as well as senior government officials.
The government said Malaysia’s participation in the BRICS Leaders’ Summit in New Delhi is in its capacity as a BRICS Partner
Country. The attendance it added was at the invitation of Narendra Modi, Prime Minister of the Republic of India and Chair of BRICS for 2026. The theme of the Republic of India’s BRICS Chairmanship this year is “Building Resilience, Innovation, Cooperation and Sustainability (BRICS)”, under the overarching framework of “Humanity First”.
The Summit is the highest-level platform of BRICS, bringing together Heads of State and Government of BRICS Member and Partner Countries to discuss strategic issues relating to global governance, sustainable development, economic cooperation, trade and investment, digital transformation, and global challenges affecting developing countries.
During the Summit, the Prime Minister is scheduled to deliver a National Statement on Shaping the Future for Inclusive Global Growth. Malaysia will emphasise the importance of strengthening cooperation among BRICS Member and Partner Countries in addressing development challenges, expanding economic opportunities, and ensuring that the benefits of technological advancement and innovation are enjoyed more inclusively by all countries.
Extending the working visit to South India, Anwar is scheduled to travel to Keralam to further solidify bilateral relations and unlock strategic collaboration across key sectors, including trade and investment, the digital economy, talent and labour, education, and regional connectivity.
In Keralam, the Anwar will meet with the Grand Mufti of India, His Excellency Sheikh Abubakr Ahmad, to exchange perspectives on community development, educational advancement, and interfaith harmony.
As part of the visit, YAB Prime Minister is scheduled to meet the Thiru V. D. Satheesan, Chief Minister of Keralam and the Thiru Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar, Governor of Keralam.
The Republic of India remains Malaysia’s largest trading partner in South Asia, with total bilateral trade reaching USD 18.55 billion (RM 79.33 billion) in 2025.
