Selangor’s 2027 Budget will focus on tackling climate risks, strengthening the competitiveness of its manufacturing sector and expanding human capital development, while also addressing the growing needs of an ageing population.
Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari said the state government is shaping the budget around several emerging priorities, including the need for a more comprehensive response to climate change and a stronger push for manufacturers to adopt more advanced technology.
He said the care economy will also receive attention as Selangor prepares for a larger elderly population, with the approach remaining aligned with the Second Selangor Plan 2026-2030.
Public feedback on service delivery at state and local government level, including road maintenance and cleanliness, will also be taken into account ahead of the budget’s tabling in November.
Amirudin said climate-related risks such as floods, haze, rising water levels and prolonged dry spells cannot be addressed by Selangor alone and require stronger coordination with the federal government and other states.
He added that the issue is not simply about increasing environmental allocations, but ensuring that states act collectively under a broader and more coordinated plan.
Selangor has already begun several related initiatives, including the establishment of a climate change adaptation centre, which Amirudin said could serve as a platform for wider action.
