Bursa Malaysia remained under pressure at midday of Sept 10, with the benchmark index falling 10.47 points, or 0.61%, to 1,703.87 as continued selling amid heightened geopolitical tensions in West Asia, elevated crude oil prices and higher US Treasury yields weighed on sentiment.
At 12.30pm, the benchmark FTSE Bursa Malaysia KLCI (FBM KLCI) stood at 1,703.87 after trading between 1,702.85 and 1,713.08 compared to its previous day’s closing of 1,714.34.
The broader market was also mostly weaker as the FBM 70 slipped 28.76 points, or 0.16%, to 17,835.80, while the F4GBM declined 5.52 points, or 0.54%, to 1,023.99. The FBM Emas fell 62.58 points, or 0.49%, to 12,618.44, while the FBM Shariah shed 61.77 points, or 0.49%, to 12,445.13.
Market breadth remained negative, with 634 decliners against 359 gainers, while 510 counters were unchanged, 1,328 untraded and 21 suspended.
Among the biggest losers, Nestle (M) Bhd dropped 62 sen to RM92.38, Kuala Lumpur Kepong Bhd declined 30 sen to RM22.60 and Telekom Malaysia Bhd lost 22 sen to RM7.96. Heineken Malaysia Bhd fell 18 sen to RM14.66, while Kelington Group Bhd shed 16 sen to RM8.49.
On the upside, United Plantations Bhd led gainers with a 74 sen increase to RM33.74, followed by Hengyuan Refining Co Bhd, which rose 25 sen to RM3.41. Malayan Cement Bhd gained 14 sen to RM5.67, Kerjaya Prospek Group Bhd advanced 13 sen to RM3.41 and Ajinomoto (M) Bhd added 12 sen to RM19.34.
Active trading activity, meanwhile, continued to be led by Zetrix AI Bhd on about 331.1 million shares while the counter eased 1.5 sen to 25.5 sen. Ni Hsin Group Bhd fell four sen to 26 sen on 110.7 million shares, while Top Glove Corp Bhd climbed seven sen to 70 sen on 51.5 million shares.
HHRG Bhd declined 1.5 sen to 16 sen with 40.8 million shares traded, while Supermax Corporation Bhd gained 4.5 sen to 39.5 sen on turnover of about 25.6 million shares.
The total turnover at midday stood at 2.13 billion units worth RM1.45 billion.
