Bursa Malaysia opened lower on Thursday, with the benchmark FTSE Bursa Malaysia KLCI (FBM KLCI) falling 7.21 points or 0.42% to 1,707.13 as selling pressure spread across most sectors.
The index opened at 1,712.70 and moved between 1,706.22 and 1,713.08 in early trade.
Broader market indices were also mostly lower, with the FBM100 falling 0.39% to 12,431.70, while the FBM70 slipped 0.29% to 17,813.51. The FBM Small Cap declined 0.17% to 16,201.53.
Among the sectoral indices, the Energy Index was the only notable gainer, rising 0.77% to 824.87. The Construction Index fell 0.71% to 317.84, while the Consumer Products & Services Index eased 0.35% to 479.18.
In the broader market, Zetrix AI Bhd was the most actively traded stock, with 2.15 billion shares changing hands. The counter fell 2 sen to 25 sen.
Nihsin Group Bhd was also heavily traded, dropping 9 sen to 21 sen after 497.89 million shares changed hands.
Among the top gainers, United Plantations Bhd rose 52 sen to RM33.52, while Hengyuan Refining Company Bhd gained 20 sen to RM3.36. Carlsberg Brewery Malaysia Bhd added 16 sen to RM13.04.
Petronas Dagangan Bhd rose 12 sen to RM20.42 and Petronas Chemicals Group Bhd gained 10 sen to RM4.65.
On the losing side, Kuala Lumpur Kepong Bhd fell 48 sen to RM22.42, followed by Malaysian Pacific Industries Bhd which declined 16 sen to RM40.80.
Telekom Malaysia Bhd also shed 16 sen to RM8.02, while Hong Leong Financial Group Bhd and Hong Leong Bank Bhd fell 14 sen and 12 sen respectively.
