The Digital Ministry has proposed incentives under Budget 2027 to help small businesses lower the cost of adopting essential technology and digital applications.
Digital Minister Gobind Singh Deo said the proposals were aimed at ensuring technology developed by the government does not merely remain available, but is actually adopted and delivers meaningful benefits to businesses and other intended users.
“We have an engagement process where each ministry submits its proposals to the MOF. My ministry met with Finance Minister II Datuk Seri Amir Hamzah Azizan two weeks ago, and I presented our proposals for Budget 2027 for consideration,” he told reporters after officiating the Scars of War – An International Photography and Art Exhibition at the Lin Xiang Xiong Art Gallery here today.
Gobind said the government was looking at ways to reduce the cost of essential equipment, digital applications and other requirements that could help small businesses embrace technology.
“How can we ensure that technology designed to help small businesses is not only available, but actually used? We need to encourage people to adopt these technologies.
“The government should consider incentives to reduce the cost of the tools and other related requirements. For me, it is about ensuring adoption and making sure the technology has a meaningful impact on small businesses and those who need it,” he said.
He said details of the proposals would not be disclosed at this stage, with the final decision left to the Ministry of Finance (MOF) before Prime Minister and Finance Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim announces the measures during or ahead of the Budget 2027 tabling.
Budget 2027, themed ‘Malaysia Madani: Menggapai Di Langit, Mengakar di Bumi’, is expected to be tabled in the Dewan Rakyat on Oct 9.
