Energy-linked counters were among the few bright spots on Bursa Malaysia last week as broad selling pressure hit banks, insurers and selected plantation stocks.
Petronas Chemicals Group led Friday’s gainers, rising 27 sen to RM5.09, while Eurospan Holdings added 18 sen to RM3.15 and Batu Kawan gained 12 sen to RM20.16.
Earlier in the week, Petronas Gas, Malaysian Pacific Industries, Kuala Lumpur Kepong and Tenaga Nasional were among the notable gainers on Monday, while United Plantations, Nestlé Malaysia and Petronas Dagangan also advanced on Tuesday.
The gains came as oil prices climbed amid escalating Middle East tensions, although the broader market remained under pressure.
On the losing side, Allianz Malaysia was Friday’s biggest decliner, falling 56 sen to RM21.12, followed by Hong Leong Bank which dropped 52 sen to RM23.08. Sunway Construction lost 47 sen while Fraser & Neave fell 44 sen.
Bursa recorded 809 decliners against 427 gainers on Friday as the FBM KLCI fell 1.10% to 1,686.74.
Plantation counters were mixed during the week, with United Plantations and KLK appearing among both the gainers and losers as investors rotated between sectors and took profits.
