TrustCapital and Taylor’s Assets have formed a strategic joint venture to establish a purpose-built student accommodation (PBSA) investment platform in Malaysia, targeting the development and acquisition of student housing assets backed by institutional capital.
The platform is intended to build a scalable portfolio of PBSA assets through multiple channels, including the acquisition of existing student accommodation properties and the development of new projects.
TrustCapital will lead fundraising and investment management for the venture, including engagement with institutional investors such as pension funds and sovereign wealth funds.
Fundraising efforts will initially focus on Malaysia, with potential expansion to international investors over time.
Taylor’s Assets, meanwhile, will oversee design and development as well as day-to-day portfolio operations, including leasing, property management, marketing and brand standards.
The joint venture will also tap the expertise of Taylor’s Residence, an established PBSA operator, to support operational standards across the portfolio.
“Building on our established experience in student accommodation, this partnership marks our next step in scaling our capabilities beyond our existing portfolio and building the first institutional-grade PBSA investment platform in Malaysia,” Taylor’s Assets president Sheena Angelina said.
The companies said the venture reflects growing demand for quality student accommodation in Malaysia, supported by rising domestic and international student enrolment.
The initiative also aligns with the Malaysia Higher Education Blueprint 2026–2035, which aims to raise the number of international students in the country to 500,000 by 2035, from about 160,000 currently.
The partners said the platform is designed to provide institutional investors with exposure to Malaysia’s student accommodation market while creating a larger pipeline of professionally managed housing assets for the country’s expanding higher education sector.
