East Malaysia Bracing For Thunderstorms, With Most Areas To See Heavy Rain

The Malaysian Meteorological Department (METMalaysia) has issued a thunderstorm and heavy rain warning for several areas across Peninsular Malaysia, Sarawak, Sabah and Labuan this afternoon.

The warning, issued at 2pm on Sept 16, is expected to remain in effect until 4pm today.

In Kedah, the affected areas are Langkawi, Baling, Sik, Kuala Muda, Pendang, Yan, Padang Terap, Pokok Sena and Kota Setar.

In Perak, the warning covers Hulu Perak, Selama and Larut Matang, while in Terengganu it affects Dungun and Hulu Terengganu. Cameron Highlands in Pahang is also affected.

In Sarawak, the warning covers Miri, Bintulu, Mukah, Sibu, Kapit including Song and Kapit, Sri Aman, Sarikei, Kuching, Samarahan, Betong, Serian and Limbang.

In Sabah, affected areas include Semporna, Kalabakan and Tawau in the Tawau division, Pensiangan, Membakut, Tambunan and Kuala Penyu in the Interior division, Tongod and Paitan in the Sandakan division as well as parts of the West Coast.

W.P. Labuan is also covered by the warning.

METMalaysia advised the public in affected areas to remain alert as thunderstorms and heavy rain may occur during the warning period.
