BYD Recalls More Than 183,200 EVs In China Over Brake Pedal Defect

BYD is recalling 183,211 vehicles in China over a manufacturing defect affecting a brake pedal component that could create a safety risk, according to the country’s market regulator.

According to Reuters, the recall covers Qin and Tang series vehicles produced between 2014 and 2022, the State Administration for Market Regulation said on Friday.

The issue involves a batch of brake pedal stopper pads that could crack or detach over time.

In extreme cases, the defect could cause the brake lights to remain illuminated even when the brake pedal is not being pressed, potentially misleading other road users.

BYD said it will replace the affected component free of charge through its authorised dealers.
