FBM KLCI Ends Lower As Buying Rotates Into Smaller Caps

Bursa Malaysia ended the trading session of Sept 18 on a softer note, with the benchmark index retreating as investors rotated into smaller-cap stocks, particularly technology and construction counters.

At 5pm, the benchmark FTSE Bursa Malaysia KLCI (FBM KLCI) fell 9.18 points, or about 0.55%, to 1,665.56 from Sept 17’s close of 1,674.74.

The index moved between 1,661.79 and 1,677.83 during the session.

Despite the weaker benchmark, buying interest remained firm in the broader market. The FBM 70 surged 1.34% to 17,844.02, while the FBM Shariah gained 0.31% to 12,311.99.

The FBM Emas slipped marginally by 0.02% to 12,411.72, while the F4GBM declined 0.12% to 1,005.75.

Meanwhile, Zetrix AI Bhd was the most actively traded stock, falling 4.5 sen to 20 sen after trading more than one billion shares.

AirAsia Group Bhd gained 2.5 sen to 53 sen, while FSBM Holdings Bhd dropped four sen to 6.5 sen.

JAKS Resources Bhd added 1.5 sen to 15.5 sen, while Top Glove Corporation Bhd slipped two sen to 77.5 sen.

The divergence between the FBM KLCI and the stronger FBM 70 underscored the session’s rotation away from large-cap stocks towards selected mid- and smaller-cap names.
