Twenty areas nationwide recorded unhealthy Air Pollutant Index (API) readings as of 9 am today, with Kuching and IPD Serian in Sarawak registering the highest reading at 169.
According to the Air Pollutant Index Management System (APIMS), six other areas in Sarawak also recorded unhealthy levels: Samarahan at 163, Sri Aman at 162, Sibu at 159, Sarikei at 152, Bintulu at 135 and Kapit at 118.
In Perak, Seri Manjung recorded an API reading of 164, while Tanjung Malim registered 113. Selangor recorded unhealthy levels in Shah Alam at 157, Petaling Jaya at 139 and Johan Setia at 113.
In Kuala Lumpur, Batu Muda and Cheras each recorded 155, while Putrajaya registered 154. Other areas with unhealthy readings were Nilai in Negeri Sembilan at 151, Larkin in Johor at 139, Bukit Rambai in Melaka at 111 and Tawau in Sabah at 108.
Meanwhile, 37 areas recorded moderate air quality while 10 recorded good readings.
Under the API classification, readings from zero to 50 indicate good air quality, 51 to 100 moderate, 101 to 200 unhealthy, 201 to 300 very unhealthy and 301 and above hazardous.
