The Najib Solidarity Fund has raised RM1 million within a day of its launch, with the public campaign aimed at helping former prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak settle the remaining fine imposed on him.
UMNO secretary-general Datuk Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki confirmed the amount in a post on his official Facebook account, saying the fund had reached the RM1 million mark as of 9:30 am on Saturday.
The fundraising campaign launched following Yang di-Pertuan Agong Sultan Ibrahim’s decision to grant Najib a conditional pardon. Under the order, Najib is allowed to serve the remainder of his sentence under house arrest until Aug 23, 2028, subject to the payment of a RM50 million fine.
Since its launch, the fund has attracted considerable attention on social media, prompting a range of reactions from users.
The RM1 million raised so far accounts for part of the RM50 million fine that Najib is required to pay under the conditional pardon.
