Malaysian Pacific Industries Bhd (MPI) emerged as the strongest weekly mover among the leading counters listed in Bursa Malaysia’s daily gainers and losers data for the week ended Sept 18, gaining a net RM2.10 across the four trading sessions, while Nestlé (M) Bhd suffered the steepest cumulative decline among the counters tracked, losing RM2.42.
Bursa Malaysia was open for trading on Sept 14, 15, 17 and 18, with the market closed on Sept 16 for the Malaysia Day public holiday.
MPI started the week among the biggest decliners, falling 70 sen on Monday to RM40 before shedding another 30 sen on Tuesday to RM39.70.
The semiconductor manufacturer then staged a sharp recovery, gaining 40 sen on Thursday before surging RM2.70 on Friday to RM42.80. Its Friday jump was the biggest gain among the counters listed that day.
Nestlé moved in the opposite direction, falling 70 sen on Monday to RM91.30 and another RM1.12 on Tuesday to RM90.18.
The stock recovered 34 sen on Thursday but fell another 94 sen on Friday to RM89.58, leaving it down RM2.42 across the week based on the daily price changes provided.
Hong Leong Bank Bhd was also among the prominent movers, gaining 30 sen on Monday before falling 36 sen on Thursday and another 56 sen on Friday. The bank ended the week at RM22.54, representing a net decline of 62 sen across the reported sessions.
Fraser & Neave Holdings Bhd appeared among the leading decliners on both Monday and Thursday, losing 32 sen and 26 sen respectively, while Heineken Malaysia Bhd fell 26 sen on Tuesday before recovering 36 sen on Thursday and losing another 34 sen on Friday.
On the gainers’ side, United Plantations Bhd led Tuesday’s advances with a 50 sen increase to RM33.60, while ViTrox Corp Bhd was Thursday’s biggest gainer, rising 48 sen to RM9.58.
Sunway Construction Group Bhd then posted the second-largest gain on Friday, adding 76 sen to RM7.88, while TIME dotCom Bhd gained 49 sen to RM6.41.
Petronas-related counters also featured among the notable movers. Petronas Chemicals Group Bhd fell 34 sen on Thursday to RM4.86, while Petronas Dagangan Bhd gained 30 sen on Thursday before falling RM1 on Friday to RM20.08.
Overall, the daily data showed a sharp rotation between gainers and losers during the week, with several counters that came under heavy selling early in the week staging strong rebounds towards Friday.
