Education Ministry To Review Tuition Centre Ownership Rules

The Education Ministry will propose a review of the rules governing tuition centre ownership for Cabinet consideration next week, following concerns raised over the existing requirements.

In a statement today, the ministry said the provisions on the ownership structure of tuition centres were set out in its Private Education Institutions Policy Book, published in 2006.

The ministry said it had taken note of the views raised on the requirements and remained open to feedback from all parties. It added that the education sector should remain open to those seeking to contribute to the development and learning of Malaysian children.

Against this backdrop, the ministry will put forward a proposal to review the existing ownership provisions for the Cabinet’s consideration next week.

The ministry also acknowledged the contributions of tuition centre operators and said it would continue working with all stakeholders in the interests of education.
