Most of Datuk Seri Najib Razak’s assets, bank accounts and properties remain subject to freezing orders and government enforcement action, his lawyers said as they review how to meet the RM50 million fine required under his conditional pardon.
Shafee & Co said the disposal of the assets was not entirely within Najib’s control, limiting his ability to fulfil the financial condition for serving the remainder of his sentence under house arrest.
The legal team said Najib was seeking advice and weighing his options on how best to meet the requirement. Until the fine is paid to the court, he will remain in Kajang Prison.
Under the conditional pardon granted by the Yang di-Pertuan Agong, Sultan Ibrahim, Najib may serve the remainder of his sentence under house arrest until 23 August 2028, subject to payment of the RM50 million fine and compliance with the other conditions imposed.
The Legal Affairs Division of the Prime Minister’s Department said failure to comply with any of the conditions would result in the revocation of the conditional pardon, requiring Najib to immediately resume serving the remainder of his sentence in prison.
Meanwhile, Buletin TV3 reported that prison officials had visited Najib’s residence in Langgak Duta, amid preparations linked to the potential house arrest arrangement.
Shafee & Co said Najib and his legal team were continuing to examine the conditions and their practical implications as they determine how to fulfil the requirements.
