Perbadanan Insurans Deposit Malaysia (PIDM) has introduced three initiatives aimed at strengthening financial institutions’ preparedness to support orderly resolution in the event of financial distress.
The initiatives, announced at PIDM’s Industry Dialogue with member banks today, comprise the Resolvability Assessment Framework (RAF), a cooperation agreement with Payments Network Malaysia Sdn Bhd (PayNet) and the launch of PIDM’s inaugural Data Pulse publication.
PIDM chief executive officer Afiza Abdullah said the initiatives represent the next phase of the agency’s resolution readiness efforts under its Corporate Plan 2026–2028.
“Together, they strengthen member institutions’ resolution resilience by supporting orderly resolution through clearer expectations, stronger collaboration and better data,” she said.
Afiza stressed that resolution readiness involves not only having the ability to undertake resolution actions but also ensuring they can be executed effectively when required.
The RAF establishes clearer expectations for member banks to assess and strengthen their preparedness for resolution, enabling more structured engagement between PIDM and financial institutions.
Meanwhile, the cooperation agreement with PayNet is intended to support continued access to critical payment infrastructure during the resolution of a financial institution.
PIDM said maintaining payment system connectivity is essential to ensuring that resolution actions can be carried out in an orderly manner while minimising disruption to financial services.
The agency also launched RAF intelligence (RAFi), an artificial intelligence-enabled tool designed to help member banks navigate resolvability requirements ahead of the framework’s implementation.P
Deputy Finance Minister Liew Chin Tong, who delivered the keynote address and launched Data Pulse, said strengthening financial resilience requires cooperation across financial institutions, policymakers and infrastructure providers.
“Prepared institutions, informed policy and collaborative infrastructure belong to one national resilience agenda,” he said.
