Anwar Highlights AI, Robotics Potential In Talks With 21 Chinese Firms

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said Malaysia is exploring high-value strategic investments with 21 leading Chinese companies, with discussions covering semiconductors, artificial intelligence (AI) and robotics.

The roundtable discussion in Shanghai also covered potential investments in electric vehicles (EVs), battery materials, advanced optics, biotechnology, healthcare, speciality chemicals and advanced manufacturing.

Anwar, who is also Finance Minister, said he heard directly from industry leaders about their plans and aspirations, including opportunities they see in Malaysia and the steps needed to turn those opportunities into investments.

“I also heard directly the plans and aspirations of industry players, including the opportunities they see in Malaysia as well as the steps needed to realise those investments.

“The government will continue to facilitate quality investments that bring technology transfer, local talent development, stronger participation by Malaysian companies as well as more quality employment opportunities,” he said in a post on X.

He said Malaysia had a strong foundation to develop further as a regional hub for high-value investment and manufacturing, supported by its mature industrial ecosystem, skilled workforce, strategic location and established supply chain networks.

The discussion was chaired by Anwar and attended by Investment, Trade and Industry Minister Datuk Seri Johari Abdul Ghani and Transport Minister Anthony Loke Siew Fook.

China has remained Malaysia’s largest trading partner for 17 consecutive years, with bilateral trade reaching US$113.82 billion or RM456.68 billion between January and August this year.

Anwar arrived in Shanghai on Tuesday for a three-day working visit covering Shanghai and Hangzhou.
